Exterior Pest Control Fact Sheet

Several pests can be controlled from outside your home. These include spiders, earwigs, certain ants, cluster flies, sow bugs, pill bugs, crickets, Asian beetles, and box elder beetles to name a few.

Deciding whether to do an exterior treatment on your house is a matter of choice. Some people are willing to put up with spiders on their house. Spiders do eat a lot of insects but tend to mess up the siding and window frames giving a house a dirty appearance. Other reasons to spray the exterior of your house are for preventative reasons, such as carpenter ants and cluster flies. If you are seeing a lot of carpenter ants it is better to control them before they start infesting inside.

All modern pesticides are harmless to humans and animals once the chemical dries. We will ask you to keep pets and children inside for 2 hrs. while the chemical dries. These chemicals are designed to kill insects and are mixed at extremely low dosage.

Some chemicals that are used for exterior treatments have been known to stain siding or aluminum. Only experience and common sense of the applicator will prevent this. For example emulsions (chemicals that turn white when mixed with water.) contain petroleum distillates and should not be sprayed on siding or aluminum when temperatures are over 27 Celsius. Jobs like these should be done when temperatures are below this threshold such as early morning. We may reschedule some treatments when temperatures are too high because the chemical will evaporate before it dries and become totally useless.

Exterior treatment prices vary depending on the company. These types of jobs can easily be priced over the phone. Expect to pay between $175 to $300 for a 1500 square foot house. Some homes will be more if they are two or three story as special equipment is necessary.
